Self-taught sculptor, Craig Wilson, will give a demonstration of his art entitled “Craig Wilson, Metal Sculptor” at the October 24 meeting of the Irondequoit Art Club to be held 7:30 PM at Chapel Oaks, St. Ann’s Community, 1550 Portland Ave., Rochester, NY 14621, after the club’s 7PM business meeting. Craig has been sculpting since 1969, through his work with his sculptor father. Now, he welds steel with an oxy-acetylene torch. His challenge is to control the flow of the metal to capture texture, shape and energy. His style is realistic & representational, combining natural and abstract qualities of the subjects. He draws inspiration from his fascination with the animal world. He formerly worked as a 3D designer in the Exhibits Department of the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester. Now retired, he welds full-time. Craig has done numerous shows including Crafts Alliance Show at Chautauqua; Clothesline Art Show; Of Land and Sea Exhibit for Wayne County Arts Council; Arts in the Garden in Sonnenberg Gardens; Windows Project for West Irondequoit School District; Horses on Parade; Masters Wildlife Show in PA; Birds in Art in WI; Society of Animal Artists Juried Exhibitions, National Tour; Wondrous Wildlife, International Wildlife Art Show, Cincinnati; National Wildlife Federation Art Show, Washington, DC; North American Sculpture Exhibition in Golden, CO. He has won awards from Society of Animal Artists Annual Exhibition; National Wildlife Federation Art Show, Washington, DC; Wondrous Wildlife Show, Cincinnati Zoo. He has received many private and public art commissions and his works are found in many collections including the Wehle Collection of Wildlife Art, Genesee Country Village; the Schmidgall collection of American and European Animal Sculpture, NYC. Examples of Craig’s art can be seen online on his Facebook page. During the summer, his studio is open to visitors during the annual Irondequoit Art Trail.
