The Rochester Art Club 2023 Signature Members Spring Art Exhibition opens on Tuesday, April 4, with an awards ceremony and reception on Saturday, April 8, from 2 to 4 PM. The show runs through May 18 at The Mill Art Center & Gallery, 61 N Main St, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. Thirty-four signature members are participating in the show, with 64 works accepted for the exhibit from 112 submitted.
The annual exhibition is a juried show open only to Rochester Art Club signature members. Most of the work in the exhibit is available for purchase. The Rochester Art Club was established in 1877 and is the second oldestactive art organization in the United States. Liz Haywood-Sullivan, PSA-MP, IAPS/EP, performed jurying for selection and awards. She has worked exclusively in the pastel medium since 1996. She is a sought-after instructor and judge for pastel societies and arts organizations worldwide. Liz authored the popular book Painting Brilliant Skies and Water in Pastel (Northlight, 2013). Her award-winning pastel paintings have been featured in numerous books and magazine articles and have appeared in national, international, and museum exhibitions worldwide. Currently living in Massachusetts, Liz grew up in Pittsford and graduated from RIT. Hours at The Mill Art Center & Gallery are 10 AM to 3 PM Tuesday and Thursday and by appointment on the weekend. The Irondequoit Art Club (IAC) will hold its 63rd Annual Spring Show & Sale May 7 through May 14 at the Summerville Presbyterian Church, 4845 St. Paul Blvd., Irondequoit, NY 14617. IAC member Gwen E. Ostrom is Chair of this event. Admission is free. Credit card sales will be accepted. The site is accessible to all.
Best of Show, Juror & Merit Awards will be presented to those pieces deemed noteworthy by professional artist judges. This year’s judges are Bill White and Jean K. Stephens. White is a Professor Emeritus of Painting and Drawing at Hollins University. His works have been shown in over thirty solo exhibitions and over one hundred juried and invitational group shows in America. He moved to Caledonia, NY with his wife Linda where they opened the Village Gallery on Main Street. Stephens, a Rochester native, received her BFA and Master degrees from RIT. A love of organic form and a spiritual connection to nature is at the heart of her art, which includes oil and encaustic painting, graphite and colored pencil drawing and mixed media. Jean is represented by Oxford Gallery, Shop One and Mill Art Center and Gallery. Artist awards will be presented during the Opening Reception on Sunday, May 7 from 2 to 4 PM. As in previous years, there will be a “Meet the Artists Day” on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 1 PM. Several artists will speak for up to 10 minutes about their entries and answer questions. This will be a unique opportunity to gain insights into the artist’s process in terms of inspiration, artistic journey, background, and techniques. |
